Organizational Context
The UNOPS Development and Special Initiatives team supports UN partners and Member States in achieving the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. This role operates under a specific agreement with the Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO) to implement activities for the UN-IFI Partnership Facility, enhancing partnerships between the UN and International Financial Institutions in conflict-affected settings.
Job Purpose
This Senior Advisor role supports UN Resident Coordinators and field teams in complex, conflict-affected settings to strengthen engagement with International Financial Institutions (IFIs). The purpose is to advance prevention, peacebuilding, and sustainable development objectives by enhancing UN-IFI collaboration and alignment on strategic planning, prevention approaches, and financing frameworks. Through targeted technical expertise, the role aims to address the root causes of conflict and support progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, fostering more effective partnerships and resource mobilization.
Responsibilities
The Senior Advisor provides expert advice and short-term capacity to UN Resident Coordinators in conflict-affected settings, focusing on joint UN-IFI planning, prevention, and transition strategies. Key duties include advising on engagement with World Bank mechanisms like IDA21 PRA and TAA, promoting coordinated engagement among governments, UN entities, IFIs, and development partners, and contributing to strategic analysis for prevention and peacebuilding frameworks. The role also involves identifying synergies between IFI financing and Peacebuilding Fund interventions, developing briefing materials and lessons learned, and ensuring programming incorporates human rights, gender equality, and inclusion. Specializations include National Prevention and Transition Strategies, Private Sector and Peace Finance, and Joint Assessments and Planning.
Work Experience
Required experience includes professional work in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and/or international development. Desired experience includes working with International Financial Institutions (IFIs), supporting strategic planning and coordination mechanisms, policy advisory to senior leadership, and integrating gender equality and inclusion into planning processes.
