Organizational Context
The UNOPS Global Portfolios Office (GPO) supports sustainable development, climate action, and peacebuilding globally. The Department of Operational Support (DOS) within UNOPS maintains ICT infrastructure for UN missions. This role is part of the Geospatial, Information and Telecommunication Technologies Service (SGITT) at the UN Global Service Centre (UNGSC), providing critical technology services and solutions to field operations and UN system clients.
Job Purpose
The ICT Officer - Geospatial Analyst provides essential geospatial intelligence and advanced geo-analytics to support UN field missions and headquarters. This role leverages geospatial data science, remote sensing, and GeoAI to enhance situational awareness, operational planning, and decision-making in complex environments. The incumbent ensures analytical processes adhere to industry standards and UN policies, contributing to the delivery of innovative, scalable, and quality-assured geospatial intelligence services globally. The position is crucial for enabling informed decision-making and effective operations within UN peacekeeping, political, and humanitarian contexts.
Responsibilities
The ICT Officer is responsible for developing and delivering Geospatial Intelligence (GeoINT) products and operational geo-analytics using integrated workflows. This includes conducting event-based geospatial analysis, contributing to Image Intelligence (IMINT) analysis to assess impacts on populated areas and infrastructure, and performing advanced spatial and temporal analysis. The role involves building spatiotemporal models to monitor conflict dynamics and population displacement, and contributing to OSINT-enabled geospatial investigations. Additionally, the incumbent will apply data science and machine learning for predictive risk assessments and develop innovative geospatial methodologies, including GeoAI and automated pipelines. Coordination with stakeholders to translate operational needs and ensuring quality control through rigorous validation procedures are also key duties.
Work Experience
Required experience includes Remote Sensing/Imagery Analysis, GIS/Geospatial Analysis, or related fields. Proficiency with ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, or comparable software is necessary. Experience in imagery intelligence, preferably in a military or humanitarian context, and professional experience with GeoAI techniques applied to geospatial data are also required. Desired experience includes working with satellite Earth Observation datasets, large-scale geospatial data processing, digital cartography, and statistical analysis.
