Job Purpose
The Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and timely transportation of authorized personnel and cargo within Syria. This role is crucial for facilitating the operational activities of the UNMAS Syria Programme, which aims to mitigate the risks posed by explosive ordnance contamination. The incumbent must demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and discretion, effectively interacting with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds while adhering to all organizational rules and regulations. The position contributes to the overall safety and efficiency of humanitarian and development operations by ensuring personnel can reach their destinations securely and on schedule.
Responsibilities
Provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation for authorized personnel and cargo, including hazardous goods where applicable. Collect and deliver mail, documents, and other items as required. Facilitate airport pick-ups and drop-offs for assigned personnel, including immigration and customs assistance. Maintain accurate daily vehicle logs and contribute to maintenance planning and usage reports. Perform routine vehicle checks and minor repairs, ensuring vehicles are kept clean, roadworthy, and well-maintained. Ensure all necessary vehicle documents, insurance, registration, and supplies are available and safeguarded. Respond to accidents in accordance with organizational regulations. Provide administrative support, including assisting with procurement processes for office supplies, managing inventory records, and supporting facility management by arranging minor repairs and liaising with service providers. Monitor office equipment and utility services, responding promptly to maintenance requests.
Work Experience
Required experience includes safe driving, defensive driving techniques, and minor vehicle repair. A strong understanding of driving rules and regulations is essential. Desired experience includes working in multicultural environments, with UN system organizations, or in developing/humanitarian contexts.
