Job Purpose
The Senior Project Manager (Infrastructure) provides critical, rapid infrastructure expertise to UNOPS country offices globally as part of the Surge Mechanism. This role is crucial for addressing urgent needs, either remotely or in-person, by managing complex infrastructure projects from inception to closure. The purpose is to ensure projects deliver within agreed tolerances of time, cost, scope, quality, risk, and benefits, while upholding UNOPS project management policies and standards. During non-assignment periods, the role contributes to internal capability building by developing training content and consolidating best practices, thereby strengthening the Surge Team's readiness and long-term impact.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include developing and implementing project plans, managing project lifecycles, and ensuring quality of work packages and deliverables. This involves coordinating design reviews, embedding sustainability dimensions, and managing resources effectively to achieve project milestones. The role requires proactive risk identification and mitigation, advising senior management and project boards on potential issues. Compliance with UNOPS policies, financial regulations, and local laws is essential. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for monitoring project progress, preparing regular financial and progress reports, and maintaining project documentation. Stakeholder engagement, including developing communication plans and fostering strong relationships with clients and partners, is vital. Additionally, the role involves quality assurance of project documents, coordinating with procurement, and contributing to knowledge management by sharing lessons learned and best practices.
Work Experience
Required experience includes implementing and managing infrastructure projects in developing or post-conflict/emergency contexts, defining technical and design requirements, managing project risks in multi-stakeholder environments, and understanding infrastructure quality assurance. Experience in multicultural or UN environments, development/humanitarian contexts, contract management, and FIDIC contracts is desirable.
