Job Purpose
The Project Manager (Infrastructure) is responsible for the effective delivery and day-to-day management of diverse infrastructure projects, including construction of physical assets and technical outputs. These projects span sectors such as education, health, transportation, and irrigation. The role serves as the primary point of contact for coordination with donors, partners, and beneficiaries, ensuring strict adherence to contractual obligations and UNOPS performance standards. Acting on behalf of the Project Board, the Project Manager is accountable for delivering project outputs within agreed tolerances for time, cost, scope, quality, risk, and benefits, thereby contributing to sustainable infrastructure development and improved community well-being.
Responsibilities
The Project Manager will develop and implement project plans, including infrastructure designs and reviews, ensuring sustainability dimensions are embedded throughout the project lifecycle. They will manage the production of outputs, monitor progress, control variances, and manage changes, while identifying and mitigating project risks to maximize stakeholder benefits. Compliance with UNOPS policies, financial regulations, and local laws is essential. The role involves developing and executing stakeholder engagement strategies, fostering strong relationships with project boards, clients, and key stakeholders. Additionally, the Project Manager will oversee quality assurance for project documents and deliverables, coordinate with procurement, and ensure effective project communication. They will also lead and motivate project teams, manage performance, and ensure the safety and security of all personnel.
Work Experience
Required experience includes implementing and managing infrastructure projects in developing or post-conflict environments, defining technical and design requirements, and knowledge of infrastructure quality assurance methodologies. Experience in managing project risks in a multi-stakeholder context is also necessary. Experience in multicultural environments or UN system organizations is desirable.
