The Uzbekistan office, established in Tashkent in 2023, supports the government's development efforts, primarily in healthcare infrastructure and service delivery, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 3.
Job Purpose
The Country Manager, reporting to the Multi-Country Office (MCO) Director, is responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and monitoring of all UNOPS engagements within Uzbekistan. This role involves actively pursuing new business opportunities, cultivating key relationships with partners and stakeholders, and ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and sustainable delivery of services. The incumbent plays a crucial role in advancing UNOPS' mandate and contributing to national development priorities, particularly in health and education sectors, while upholding organizational standards and fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
Responsibilities
The Country Manager is accountable for leading and managing the UNOPS Project Office in Uzbekistan. This includes fostering a culture of trust, empowerment, and diversity, and ensuring adherence to ethical standards. Key responsibilities involve portfolio management, including developing proposals and project agreements, planning resource allocation, and establishing implementation strategies. The role requires overseeing project delivery, ensuring quality assurance, and managing financial controls for fiscal sustainability. Additionally, the Country Manager is responsible for building strategic partnerships, advocating for UNOPS services, and representing UNOPS in inter-agency coordination meetings. Risk management and knowledge sharing are also critical components of the role, ensuring effective decision-making and continuous improvement.
Work Experience
Requires relevant experience in strategic and managerial leadership, encompassing public affairs, business development planning, and operations within a large corporate or international organization. Experience in multicultural environments or UN system organizations in developing countries, as well as in development or humanitarian contexts, is desirable.
