Organizational Context
The UNODC, through the CDESC project, focuses on evidence-based studies and multidimensional analysis of drug-related issues, promoting sustainable social, economic, and environmental alternatives. UNOPS, as an operational arm of the UN, supports project implementation, providing project management, procurement, and infrastructure services globally. This role sits within the Sustainable Development Cluster, supporting UNODC's mandate.
Job Purpose
The Project Management Associate [Research] provides substantive support to the planning, coordination, and execution of project activities under the CDESC project. This role is crucial for ensuring effective coordination with stakeholders, facilitating operations, and guaranteeing that project activities are delivered efficiently and in alignment with the project's results framework and internal processes. The associate will contribute to the project's objective of fostering social and community development by promoting sustainable alternatives to mitigate the impacts of drug trafficking.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include supporting senior technical leads and project managers in stakeholder engagement, training needs assessment, and capacity-building program development. This involves contributing to budget preparation, procurement processes, and risk identification with mitigation measures. The associate will coordinate logistics for training sessions, workshops, and meetings, and assist in developing training materials. They will also monitor project milestones, develop and update tracking tools, and ensure compliance with UNOPS policies and donor requirements. Operational support includes coordinating procurement, travel, and inventory management, as well as managing project files and documentation. Additionally, the role involves supporting knowledge sharing initiatives and conducting research on project management topics.
Work Experience
Required experience includes relevant project management or related field experience, proficiency in collaboration and productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite), experience in international cooperation, and quantitative research development. Desirable experience includes working in multicultural environments, UN system organizations, development or humanitarian contexts, and research in drug policy, public security, criminology, or related areas.
