Job Purpose
The Lead Mechanical Engineer will provide technical leadership and expertise for infrastructure projects focused on water access and health services in Sudan. This role involves independently managing projects within established frameworks, offering authoritative advice on mechanical systems, and adapting policies to meet project needs. The engineer will supervise junior staff, solve complex technical problems, and manage a portfolio of mechanical engineering activities, including design and procurement. A key aspect is interacting with clients to ensure reliable service delivery and maintain strong relationships, ultimately contributing to improved living conditions and community resilience.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and project management for mechanical engineering aspects of infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with international standards. Offer expert advice on the design, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems, including water pumps, HVAC, and medical equipment. Adapt engineering policies to suit local conditions in Sudan, considering resource constraints. Supervise and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and technicians, ensuring high-quality output. Resolve complex technical challenges using engineering principles and existing guidelines. Manage mechanical engineering activities such as equipment procurement, system design, and maintenance planning. Engage with clients and stakeholders to foster relationships and ensure dependable service delivery. Lead the design, specification, installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems for water and health projects, ensuring efficiency and sustainability. Develop and implement maintenance plans to optimize operational efficiency and minimize downtime. Conduct site assessments and technical evaluations to identify needs and propose solutions. Prepare comprehensive technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus on infrastructure projects, is required. Proven experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems, along with project management and team leadership, is essential. Experience in international development or humanitarian settings, particularly in water and health infrastructure, is desirable.
