Organizational Context
The UNOPS Middle East Region (MR) provides strategic leadership and support across Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and the State of Palestine. It engages with regional bodies, UN mechanisms, and donors to deliver sustainable solutions to development, peace, and humanitarian challenges. The role supports UNOPS operations in Gaza, focusing on humanitarian response and early recovery through infrastructure, procurement, and project management.
Job Purpose
The Due Diligence Senior Officer is responsible for conducting comprehensive due diligence reviews, including financial crime, reputational, sustainability, and ethical assessments. This role provides risk-based advisory services to ensure that prospective and existing partners align with UN core values and established policies. The purpose is to safeguard UNOPS' integrity and operational effectiveness by identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with partnerships, thereby contributing to the successful delivery of projects and adherence to international standards.
Responsibilities
Administer and operationalize the UNOPS Due Diligence Policy by conducting thorough research and screenings of funding sources in line with legal frameworks and standards. Assess identified risks in relation to the business context and overall business risk. Prepare and consolidate detailed due diligence and screening reports, including executive summaries and clear, risk-based recommendations for submitting units. Provide advisory services to stakeholders on interpreting due diligence policies, particularly concerning Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT). Support the development of training materials and guidance notes on due diligence processes, acting as a subject-matter expert.
Work Experience
Requires 4 years of professional due diligence experience, preferably in an international setting. Experience within the UN system, developing internal SOPs for financial institutions, or in development/humanitarian contexts is desirable.
