Job Purpose
The Knowledge Management Specialist is crucial for operating and enhancing UNOPS' knowledge, learning, and innovation infrastructure. This role empowers personnel to effectively capture, share, and apply organizational insights, directly contributing to UNOPS' strategic objectives. Key responsibilities include supporting the codification and refinement of service offerings, developing knowledge and learning approaches for thematic missions, and integrating diverse inputs-from delivery experience to foresight-to foster innovation. The specialist collaborates extensively with mission leads, strategic partnerships, HQ groups, and geographic offices. A significant aspect of the role involves building organizational capacity by delivering training and nurturing communities of practice, thereby strengthening knowledge, learning, and innovation skills across UNOPS. This ensures that valuable insights are systematically leveraged to improve delivery and anticipate future needs.
Responsibilities
The specialist operates and enhances knowledge and learning frameworks, systems, and tools to ensure effective capture, codification, dissemination, and access across UNOPS. This includes applying knowledge governance, supporting the codification of service offerings for standardization and replication, and maintaining mission-related knowledge infrastructure in collaboration with mission leads. The role also involves developing partner-facing materials with the strategic partnerships team and supporting transformation initiatives by deploying knowledge systems. Furthermore, the specialist contributes to innovation by operating ideation and testing processes, integrating insights from delivery, foresight, and thematic areas to drive new service offerings. A key responsibility is building organizational capability through delivering training and business partnering support to enhance knowledge, learning, and innovation skills. This includes guiding personnel on systems and resources, and fostering communities of practice to maximize value from shared knowledge. The role also emphasizes teamwork, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment while upholding UNOPS' ethical standards and policies.
Work Experience
Required experience includes progressive roles in knowledge management and/or communications, coordinating multi-stakeholder initiatives, and designing/implementing KM tools and processes. Candidates must have experience codifying practices, capturing lessons learned in complex organizations, delivering training, and supporting communities of practice, ideally in multicultural environments. Desirable experience includes working in development or humanitarian contexts, or within UN system organizations.
