Organizational Context
UNOPS, a UN operational arm, supports peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development projects globally. In Colombia, UNODC, through UNOPS, combats illicit drugs and crime by fostering international best practices, generating knowledge, and supporting national policies. This role operates within the Sustainable Development Cluster, supporting UNODC's mandate through HR services.
Job Purpose
The Driver will ensure the safe and reliable transportation of authorized personnel in Tumaco, Colombia. This role is crucial for the operational effectiveness of UNODC's alternative development programs, which aim to support communities affected by illicit crops. The driver must demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and discretion, working effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. This position directly contributes to the successful implementation of UNODC's mission by facilitating essential movement of staff and resources.
Responsibilities
Provide secure, reliable, and timely transportation for authorized personnel, and collect/deliver correspondence and documents. Maintain a daily logbook detailing mileage and fuel consumption for reporting and maintenance planning. Conduct routine vehicle checks (oil, water, battery, brakes, tires) and perform minor repairs, coordinating major ones as needed. Ensure vehicles are kept clean and roadworthy, with all required documents (insurance, registration) and supplies (first-aid kit, spare parts, communication equipment) readily available. Respond to accidents according to organizational regulations. Offer administrative support, including obtaining quotes for office supplies, managing inventory records, and coordinating minor facility repairs. Assist with logistics for meetings, workshops, and events.
Work Experience
Required experience includes safe driving and performing minor vehicle repairs. Knowledge of Colombian traffic laws and UN transportation regulations for passengers is essential. Experience in multicultural environments or with UN system organizations in developing countries, as well as in development or humanitarian contexts, is desirable. Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is also valued.
