Job Purpose

The Mechanical Engineer (retainer) will support the Technical Services Unit (TSU) on an ad-hoc basis. This role involves providing technical expertise for various projects, including desktop and site assessments, technical design development and review, procurement support, and design assistance. The engineer will contribute to the TSU's mission of delivering multidisciplinary design, peer review, and advisory services for infrastructure works globally, ensuring high-quality technical solutions and documentation.

Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer will conduct site assessments of mechanical components, recommend cost-effective solutions, and perform analyses using specialized software. Responsibilities include collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive design documentation, technical support for tender evaluations, and monitoring mechanical installations on project sites. The role involves reviewing mechanical service designs, preparing accurate designs, specifications, and bills of quantity, and liaising with contractors for quality verification. Additionally, the engineer will manage commissioning, handover documents, and ensure as-built drawings and maintenance manuals are completed, while also participating in knowledge sharing activities.

Work Experience

A minimum of 4 years of experience is required in analysis, design preparation, specifications, BOQs, site monitoring, and coordination of mechanical engineering installation works, including HVAC, water supply, drainage, firefighting, lifts, and gas distribution systems. Experience in multicultural or UN system environments is desired.
