Job Purpose
The Deputy Project Manager will work under the supervision of the Senior Project Manager, proactively managing their workload, defining and negotiating deadlines, goals, and priorities. This role is crucial for the day-to-day operations of the project, coordinating internal support areas and collaborating closely with the Senior Project Manager throughout the implementation and closure phases. The primary objective is to ensure project results are delivered within specified tolerances for time, cost, quality, scope, risk, and benefits, meeting organizational performance and delivery targets.
Responsibilities
The Deputy Project Manager is responsible for overseeing daily project operations, coordinating internal support, and managing the project lifecycle in collaboration with the Senior Project Manager. Key duties include developing and updating project implementation plans, managing project execution within approved tolerances, and ensuring adherence to UNOPS Project Management Manual (PMM) standards. This involves managing changes, risks, quality, and project performance, integrating sustainability principles like social inclusion and gender equity. The role entails managing the production of results, resource utilization, initiating corrective actions, monitoring performance against delivery indicators, and ensuring the quality of work packages and deliverables. Responsibilities also include managing acceptance and delivery of work packages, supervising project progress, controlling changes, identifying and mitigating risks, and managing the delivery of medical equipment and infrastructure projects. The Deputy Project Manager will also prepare management reports, ensure compliance with organizational policies, manage legal obligations, contribute to procurement requirements, maintain project files, and record lessons learned.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in developing and managing medium-to-high complexity projects is required. Desirable experience includes project and program management with governmental and international cooperation entities, project management in Latin America and the Caribbean, technical assistance and institutional strengthening projects, procurement and contract management, and health sector projects.
