Job Purpose
The Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient transportation of authorized personnel, equipment, and resources within South Sudan. This role is crucial for the effective delivery of UNOPS projects, which include infrastructure, procurement, and project management services aimed at improving socio-economic conditions and fostering resilience. The incumbent must maintain high standards of professionalism, integrity, and discretion, demonstrating courtesy and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds while navigating local terrain and security conditions.
Responsibilities
The Driver's primary duties include providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation for authorized personnel and cargo, as well as collecting and delivering mail and documents. This involves performing routine vehicle checks, ensuring vehicles are kept in good working condition, and carrying out minor repairs while coordinating major ones. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining accurate daily vehicle logs, keeping vehicles clean and roadworthy, and ensuring all necessary documents and supplies are available and safekept. In the event of an accident, immediate action must be taken according to organizational regulations. Additionally, the Driver will assist with administrative tasks such as procurement processes for office supplies, inspecting and maintaining inventory records, and supporting facility management by arranging minor repairs and liaising with service providers.
Work Experience
Required experience includes safe driving, defensive driving, and minor vehicle repair, along with a strong knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Experience working in multicultural environments or within the UN system in a developing country is desirable, as is experience in development or humanitarian contexts.
