The Asia Pacific Regional Office oversees UNOPS operations across 17 countries, focusing on high performance and operational excellence. The South Asia Multi-Country Office (SAMCO) supports operations in six countries, providing expertise in climate change, WASH, infrastructure, and procurement. UNOPS in Bangladesh partners with the government on SDG-aligned projects, emphasizing capacity development and infrastructure.
Job Purpose
The Project Manager (Infrastructure) is responsible for the effective delivery and day-to-day management of diverse infrastructure projects, including construction and technical outputs across sectors like education, health, and transportation. This role serves as the primary liaison with donors, partners, and beneficiaries, ensuring projects meet contractual obligations and UNOPS performance standards. Acting on behalf of the Project Board, the Project Manager is accountable for delivering project outputs within defined tolerances for time, cost, scope, quality, risk, and benefits, thereby contributing to sustainable development solutions.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include developing and implementing project plans, managing infrastructure designs and reviews, and embedding sustainability dimensions into project lifecycles. The role involves managing the production of outputs, ensuring quality compliance, and liaising with suppliers for timely delivery. Project progress is monitored, variances controlled, and changes managed. Risk mitigation strategies are identified and advised upon to maximize stakeholder benefits. Compliance with UNOPS policies, local regulations, and financial rules is mandatory. Regular reporting, stakeholder engagement, and quality assurance are critical functions. The Project Manager also fosters a learning environment, manages project teams, and ensures personnel safety and security.
Work Experience
Required experience includes implementing and managing infrastructure projects in developing or post-conflict environments, defining technical and design requirements, and managing project risks in a multi-stakeholder context. Experience with infrastructure quality assurance methodologies is also required. Experience in multicultural environments or UN system organizations is desirable.
