Job Purpose
The Senior Urban Specialist leads the Cities Alliance Informality Task Force, driving global collaboration and policy dialogue to address urban informality, slum transformation, and adequate housing. This role provides crucial technical and strategic leadership, fostering partnerships and influencing global and regional urban agendas. The specialist designs innovative programmes and strengthens coordination among governments, development partners, civil society, and other stakeholders to advance inclusive, sustainable, and resilient urban development, aligning with international goals and Cities Alliance's mission.
Responsibilities
The Senior Urban Specialist leads the Informality Task Force (ITF), an inter-institutional platform for dialogue and collaboration among over 30 organizations focused on slum inhabitants and informal settlements. Responsibilities include developing and implementing ITF activities, leading strategic planning with partners to support global policy frameworks, and contributing to Cities Alliance's programmatic work on inclusive urban development. The role involves analyzing urban challenges, coordinating joint initiatives, identifying funding opportunities, and preparing proposals. Additionally, the specialist provides technical inputs for programme design and implementation, leads advocacy and outreach efforts, drafts knowledge and communication products, and represents the organization at conferences. Stakeholder engagement, partnership development, and acting as a focal point for specific regions are also key duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressive professional experience in managing multi-stakeholder processes for inclusive urban development is required. Experience in engaging with civil society and governments in developing countries on projects in informal settlements is essential. Knowledge of global stakeholder processes for slum transformation and adequate housing is also required. Strategic partnership building and proposal writing experience are desirable.
