Organizational Context
UNOPS' Development and Special Initiatives team supports UN partners and Member States in achieving the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. This role operates within the UNOCT project, focusing on the Global Programme on Prosecution, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration. The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) enhances global counter-terrorism efforts and capacity-building.
Job Purpose
The Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and timely transportation of authorized personnel and, when necessary, cargo or hazardous goods. This role requires a high degree of professionalism, courtesy, and discretion, with the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. The incumbent will also manage daily vehicle logs, perform routine maintenance checks, and ensure the vehicle is kept in optimal condition, contributing to the smooth operation of project activities.
Responsibilities
Provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation for authorized personnel and cargo. Collect and deliver mail, documents, and other items as required. Meet and assist personnel at the airport, including facilitating immigration and customs. Maintain accurate daily vehicle logs and contribute to maintenance reports. Perform routine vehicle checks (oil, water, brakes, tires) and ensure the vehicle is kept clean and roadworthy. Conduct minor repairs and coordinate major repairs. Ensure all necessary vehicle documents and supplies are available and secure. Respond to accidents according to organizational regulations. Assist with procurement processes, including obtaining quotations for office supplies. Inspect, distribute, and maintain inventory records for office supplies. Support facility management by arranging minor repairs and liaising with service providers. Monitor office equipment and utility services, responding promptly to maintenance requests.
Work Experience
Required experience includes safe driving, defensive driving, and minor vehicle repair. Experience working for the United Nations in Iraq and knowledge of driving rules and regulations are also required. Experience with UNAMI or in development/humanitarian contexts is desirable.
