Job Purpose
The GIS and Data Analysis Associate is instrumental in supporting programme implementation by producing accurate spatial data, comprehensive maps, and essential analytical products. This critical function directly contributes to robust, evidence-based planning, transparent reporting, and effective monitoring of programme activities, ensuring that interventions are well-informed and impactful. The incumbent is responsible for the meticulous organization and timely maintenance of GIS databases and all associated project information, guaranteeing data integrity and accessibility. By upholding these high standards, the role significantly enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of programme delivery, enabling streamlined operations and better resource utilization. The Associate's work provides the foundational spatial intelligence required for informed decision-making, strategic interventions, and demonstrating accountability across the programme portfolio, particularly in complex humanitarian and development contexts. This ensures that programmes can adapt and respond effectively to evolving needs.
Responsibilities
The GIS and Data Analysis Associate will provide comprehensive GIS and Mapping Support, including preparing and updating thematic maps using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and QGIS. This involves supporting the collection, processing, and visualization of geospatial data, assisting in updating GIS databases, maintaining spatial datasets, and producing standard maps and simple spatial analyses to aid programme implementation. In Data Management and Analysis, the incumbent will collect, organize, clean, and maintain both spatial and non-spatial programme-related datasets. Responsibilities also include assisting in compiling data for reports, dashboards, and project monitoring, performing routine data quality checks, maintaining metadata and documentation, and supporting the preparation of charts, tables, and data visualizations. For Coordination and Programme Support, the Associate will assist programme teams by preparing maps, graphics, and GIS outputs for reports, presentations, and donor deliverables. This also entails assisting in data collection exercises, field verification, and information management activities, organizing and filing GIS products and project documentation, and providing administrative and technical support for GIS-related programme activities. Finally, in Capacity Building and Coordination, the role involves maintaining GIS databases, project folders, and data repositories, assisting in preparing user guides and basic documentation, and supporting internal knowledge-sharing sessions. The Associate will also perform other GIS- and data-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
A minimum of 6 years of experience in GIS, mapping, data management, or spatial analysis is required, with potential reduction based on academic credentials. Essential experience includes using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, and Microsoft Office. Desirable experience includes Power BI, Survey123, Kobo Toolbox, or similar data collection platforms, knowledge of Python or SQL, and previous work with UN agencies or international organizations.
