Organizational Context
UNOPS supports partners in building a better future through efficient, effective, and sustainable project management, procurement, and infrastructure services. The New York Portfolio Office (NYPO) specifically assists UN Secretariat and other New York-based entities, focusing on peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development operations. This role is within the Development and Special Initiatives team, supporting UN Secretary-General's priorities and the 2030 Agenda.
Job Purpose
The Programme Management Specialist will support the United Nations Youth Office in advancing key initiatives. This involves linking high-level events, fostering collaborative engagements, and driving resource mobilization efforts. The role is crucial for enhancing the visibility and impact of the UN Youth Office's work, ensuring alignment with its mandate and priorities. By providing strategic support and facilitating key activities, the incumbent will contribute to the effective implementation of programs aimed at advancing youth issues across the UN system, including peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights.
Responsibilities
The Programme Management Specialist will participate in strategic planning for flagship initiatives, offering insights for program design and identifying funding opportunities. They will provide strategic support for special events, contributing to conceptualization, agenda design, and logistical preparation. This includes drafting concept notes, briefing materials, and advising on meeting execution. The role involves representing the UN Youth Office at external events to promote initiatives and identify resource mobilization opportunities, building professional networks. Additionally, the specialist will support resource mobilization by developing funding proposals, cultivating donor relationships, and tracking funding progress. They will also help implement proposals for flagship initiatives, conduct opportunity assessments, and prepare investment cases. Collaboration with relevant sections is key for preparing high-level pitches and presentations, ensuring consistent messaging. Managing relationships with funding partners, maintaining donor databases, and preparing donor reports are also core duties.
Work Experience
Progressively responsible experience in programme management and implementation, high-level event planning, and resource mobilization is required. Experience in developing project proposals and organizing high-level events is also necessary. Desirable experience includes pitching programmes for international development, humanitarian, or peacebuilding initiatives, and organizing events with multiple audiences.
