Organizational Context
The UNOPS Africa Regional Office oversees over 250 projects in 40 countries, focusing on fragile and conflict-affected settings. The Central Africa Multi-Country Office (CAMCO) partners with governments and organizations across 15 nations, providing fund management, technical assistance, and capacity-building in critical sectors. The Yaoundé office contributes to sustainable development and improved livelihoods throughout Central Africa.
Job Purpose
Under the supervision of the Finance, Administration, and Logistics Officer, the Finance Intern provides specialized support in finance, accounting, and secretarial functions related to project accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting. This role ensures the quality and accuracy of financial data, promotes a client-oriented approach, and collaborates with operations, program, and project staff to resolve financial issues. The intern actively participates in the implementation and monitoring of financial and administrative data, contributing to the analysis and reliability of financial information and ensuring adherence to internal control procedures and current standards.
Responsibilities
The Finance Intern will support the effective financial management within the UNOPS Yaoundé Operational Platform. Key responsibilities include participating in the preparation and analysis of financial data reports, extracting and consolidating payment supporting documents, and processing financial documentation. The intern will maintain an internal control system to ensure processed vouchers comply with procedures and transactions are correctly recorded. They will provide support to the finance unit in managing and verifying payments, communicating with colleagues regarding corrections and verifications for periodic transactions, and entering/extracting data from various UNOPS automated systems. Additionally, the intern will verify data accuracy, maintain the Finance dashboard, ensure efficient filing of financial documents, and update support documents for audits. They will also assist with inventory and physical asset verification and perform other related tasks.
Work Experience
Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and Google Sheets, is required. Prior experience with spreadsheets, databases, and web-based management systems is beneficial.
