Job Purpose
The Senior Project Manager (Implementation) is pivotal in leading projects from initiation to closure, ensuring effective delivery and oversight. This role is responsible for managing projects within agreed tolerances for time, cost, scope, quality, risk, and benefits, acting on behalf of the Project Board. The incumbent coordinates with donors, partners, and beneficiaries, ensuring alignment with contractual commitments and UNOPS standards. A deep understanding of project planning, implementation, monitoring, and control is essential, alongside effective stakeholder management to meet business case objectives and ensure successful project outcomes as defined by success criteria.
Responsibilities
The Senior Project Manager is accountable for developing and implementing project plans, managing the production of outputs, and ensuring quality compliance. This includes monitoring progress, controlling variances, managing changes, and mitigating project risks to maximize stakeholder benefits. The role requires adherence to UNOPS policies, financial regulations, and local laws, maintaining project documentation, and supporting audits. Regular monitoring, reporting on project and financial status, and evaluating performance against scope, cost, schedule, and quality criteria are key. Developing and executing stakeholder engagement strategies, fostering strong relationships with the project board and clients, and coordinating communication are crucial. The manager also ensures quality assurance of project deliverables, promotes knowledge sharing, and leads and motivates the project team, ensuring fair performance reviews and compliance with safety standards.
Work Experience
Required experience includes implementing complex projects, project planning, implementation, control, communication, reporting, quality assurance methodologies, and risk management in multi-stakeholder contexts. Experience in multicultural environments, UN organizations, developing countries, development or humanitarian contexts, and management consulting with public-sector advisory is desired.
