Electrical Engineer
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) operates in Latin America and the Caribbean, focusing on sustainable development through resilient infrastructure and public health support. The Southern Cone Multi-Country Office (SCMCO), based in Brazil, oversees operations in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, strengthening public institutions and supporting national priorities. This role supports the National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE) in Brazil, aiming to improve basic education infrastructure.
Job Purpose
This role is for an Electrical Engineer specializing in Electrical and Electronic Installations, supporting UNOPS Project Cooperation Technical Agreement UNOPS/24330. The primary purpose is to contribute to strengthening education infrastructure management for traditional peoples in Brazil. The engineer will support the National Works Specialist and Coordinating Engineer in achieving Result 2, specifically focusing on the analysis and evaluation of physical infrastructure in schools. This involves ensuring the quality and completion of electrical and electronic installations within educational facilities, aligning with national and UNOPS standards, and contributing to the overall goal of providing adequate infrastructure for quality education.
Responsibilities
The Electrical Engineer will report to the National Specialist in Construction Management and be responsible for various technical activities. This includes participating in progress meetings, supporting the drafting of project requirements for diagnostics, projects, and construction, and reviewing/updating infrastructure projects. The role involves compiling diagnostic proposals, analyzing and reviewing executive projects for electrical and electronic installations, and preparing technical reports on energy capture, electrical, electronic systems, lightning protection, and grounding. Responsibilities also extend to analyzing budget spreadsheets, formulating guidelines for project planning and execution, applying advanced engineering techniques for problem-solving, and providing technical guidance to junior staff. The engineer will also prepare progress reports, participate in site visits, and contribute to the compilation of technical project documents, ensuring alignment with social specialist demands and operational team needs.
Work Experience
Required: Two years of progressive experience in Electrical and Electronic infrastructure projects. Proficiency in MS Office and Google Workspace. Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, Lumine, QiElétrico, SIMARIS, QIBuilter, Revit, or similar software. Desirable: Experience in public sector projects and prior experience with the UN system or other international organizations.
