Job Purpose
This role is for a Sanitary/Hydraulic Engineer to support UNOPS Project 24330, "Strengthening the management of education infrastructure for traditional peoples in Brazil." The engineer will focus on assessing the physical infrastructure of schools, specifically water and sanitation systems, to ensure quality and compliance with national and UNOPS standards. The objective is to contribute to the successful completion of unfinished school construction projects for indigenous and quilombola communities, thereby enhancing educational infrastructure and supporting the achievement of development goals. The position requires technical expertise in hydraulic and sanitary installations to provide guidance and ensure projects meet required standards.
Responsibilities
The Sanitary/Hydraulic Engineer will report to the National Works Management Specialist and be responsible for participating in technical meetings, supporting the development of terms of reference for infrastructure diagnostics and project reviews, and compiling guidelines for tenders. Key duties include analyzing and defining strategic guidelines for sanitation projects (water supply, drainage, sewage), preparing technical reports on water and sewage systems, and formulating guidelines for project planning, execution, and quality control. The role involves applying advanced engineering techniques to solve installation problems, providing technical guidance to junior staff, and preparing progress reports. Collaboration with social specialists and the operational team is essential for integrating data and ensuring project alignment. Site visits to schools and communities will be required.
Work Experience
Required: Two years of progressive experience in sanitary/hydraulic infrastructure projects. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google Workspace. Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD or similar software for sanitary/hydraulic installations. Desirable: Experience with public sector projects and previous work with UN or international organizations.
