Organizational Context
The UNMAS Syria Programme, based in Damascus, is central to coordinating humanitarian mine action and enabling safe access for UN operations. It actively supports the UN Country Team and works with the Syrian Government to establish a national mine action authority. UNMAS also leads the Mine Action Area of Responsibility, coordinating efforts within the humanitarian framework.
Job Purpose
The Senior Officer, Programme Management Office (PRMO), provides critical analytical and operational support for the effective implementation, coordination, and monitoring of project activities. This role ensures successful delivery within scope, time, cost, and quality parameters. By contributing to risk and performance management and maintaining timely communication with partners, the Senior Officer drives efficient project delivery and achievement of results, meeting organizational and client expectations through proactive problem-solving and client focus.
Responsibilities
The Senior Officer, PRMO, is responsible for contributing to detailed implementation plans, ensuring timely and quality delivery of project outputs within budget. This includes providing logistical and operational support for missions and workshops, and integrating sustainability, social inclusion, and gender equality. The role supports HSSE standards and participates in field missions for monitoring. Key duties involve coordinating report preparation, tracking project progress against indicators, maintaining monitoring tools, and assisting with quality assurance and audits. Additionally, the role supports stakeholder relationship development, facilitates communication, organizes meetings, and ensures stakeholders are informed of project progress. Knowledge sharing through training and research, and preparing communication materials are also integral.
Work Experience
Required experience includes work in project management or related areas, and demonstrable proficiency with collaboration tools (MS Office, G-Suite) and web-based management systems. Experience in multicultural or UN system environments in a developing country, or in development/humanitarian contexts, is desirable.
