Quality Engineering Technician - Associate
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is a UN agency focused on infrastructure, procurement, and project management, delivering practical solutions and responding to needs globally. The INFRAIGSS program, in partnership with the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS), is in its second phase (2025-2030), prioritizing the construction and equipping of two new hospitals. This role supports the Regional Hospital of Oriente in Zacapa, a third-level referral center.
Job Purpose
The Quality Engineering Technician - Associate ensures that all contractor and supervision work adheres to required quality standards, aiming to prevent defects, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with technical specifications. This role is crucial for the successful delivery of resilient, safe, and sustainable infrastructure, aligning with UNOPS and donor standards. The position contributes to the overall project objectives by maintaining high-quality construction and operational processes, supporting the modernization of healthcare facilities and ensuring the effective implementation of the INFRAIGSS program.
Responsibilities
The role involves comprehensive construction management, including supervising daily activities to ensure adherence to quality plans, project specifications, and contractual obligations. It requires monitoring construction progress and contractor performance, coordinating quality management activities, and representing UNOPS in site meetings. Quality management duties include contributing to UNOPS quality standards, conducting inspections, verifying material and equipment compliance, reviewing quality control procedures, and managing non-conformities and corrective actions. The technician will also support Health, Safety, Social, and Environmental (HSSE) management by implementing UNOPS systems and local regulations, conducting safety inspections, and promoting environmental sustainability. Additionally, the role entails monitoring project progress, preparing detailed weekly and monthly reports on quality, safety, and environmental aspects, and maintaining complete site records. Knowledge management includes supporting training sessions on quality and construction management.
Work Experience
Required: 2-6 years of relevant experience in construction, site supervision, or infrastructure project management, with experience in quality control, monitoring, and reporting. Proficiency in collaboration tools is essential. Desirable: Experience in quality assurance for infrastructure projects, ISO 9001 quality management systems, multicultural environments, and construction management technologies.
