This role supports the management of the Hospital Regional de Oriente in Zacapa, a third-level referral hospital.
Job Purpose
The Electrical Engineering Technician - Associate supports the planning, implementation, and supervision of electrical engineering infrastructure projects. This role ensures that supervision and construction activities align with contract conditions, design specifications, quality standards, schedules, and safety requirements. The position contributes to on-site technical supervision, contractor management, stakeholder coordination, and effective reporting and documentation, adhering to UNOPS and donor standards. The role is crucial for the successful execution of complex hospital construction and equipping projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to high-quality benchmarks.
Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance and construction supervision, contributing to project work plans, drawings, and specifications. Monitor on-site construction activities to ensure compliance with design standards, technical specifications, and contractual obligations. Conduct quality inspections, verify material compliance, and oversee safety and environmental standards, aligning with UNOPS HSSE requirements. Support the resolution of technical and operational issues in coordination with contractors and project management. Verify contractor progress, prepare and review interim payment certificates, and ensure accurate documentation for disbursements. Review change orders and cost claims, ensuring technical accuracy and cost-effectiveness. Support timely delivery of site progress reports and construction milestone documentation. Coordinate with end-users, contractors, consultants, and local authorities for smooth project implementation. Organize and participate in project meetings, prepare minutes, and follow up on action points. Monitor compliance with contractual obligations of supervisory and construction companies, reporting deviations from approved schedules. Collaborate on preparing technical and progress reports, highlighting achievements, delays, risks, and financial updates. Provide support for project administration, procurement, and logistics, including contract and asset management, payment tracking, and documentation. Maintain accurate project records and financial data according to UNOPS standards. Support the organization of training sessions and participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Work Experience
Required: 2-6 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering within building construction, site supervision, or infrastructure project management. Experience in quality control, monitoring, and reporting for construction projects. Proficiency in collaboration and productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite) and web-based management systems. Desirable: Experience in multicultural environments, UN system organizations, developing countries, humanitarian aid contexts, and technical report writing.
