Associate Construction Management Engineer
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is a UN agency focused on infrastructure, procurement, and project management, delivering practical solutions and responding to global needs. The INFRAIGSS Program, in partnership with the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS), is in its second phase (2025-2030), prioritizing the construction and equipping of two new hospitals. This role supports the Regional Hospital of the East in Zacapa, a critical third-level healthcare facility.
Job Purpose
The Associate Construction Management Engineer supports the planning, implementation, and supervision of infrastructure projects within architecture and engineering domains. This role is crucial for ensuring that construction and supervision activities adhere strictly to contract terms, design specifications, quality standards, timelines, and safety requirements. The position contributes by providing on-site technical oversight, managing contractors, coordinating effectively with all stakeholders, and ensuring accurate reporting and documentation in compliance with UNOPS and donor regulations. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the successful and efficient execution of complex hospital construction projects.
Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance and construction supervision by contributing to work plans, monitoring site activities for compliance with design standards and contractual obligations, and conducting quality, safety, and environmental inspections. Resolve technical issues with contractors and project managers, verify contractor progress, and review payment certificates and change orders. Coordinate with end-users, contractors, consultants, and local authorities to ensure smooth project implementation, prepare meeting minutes, and track action points. Monitor contractual compliance and report deviations from schedules. Support operational and logistical aspects, including contract administration, payment tracking, and maintaining accurate project records. Contribute to knowledge building by supporting training and participating in knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Work Experience
Requires 2 to 6 years of relevant experience in building construction, site supervision, or infrastructure project management. Experience in quality control, monitoring, and reporting within construction projects is essential. Proficiency in collaboration tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite) and web-based management systems is required. Experience in multicultural environments or UN system organizations is desirable.
