Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) works with states and civil society to prevent drugs and crime from threatening security, peace, and development. The UNODC's Alternative Development Program supports families and communities affected by illicit crops by promoting legal productive alternatives. This role supports the implementation of economic strengthening and social inclusion activities within this program.
Job Purpose
The Project Officer will support the implementation and monitoring of economic strengthening activities with a differential, gender, and intercultural approach, aligned with the program's technical and territorial guidelines. The role contributes to developing initiatives that promote inclusive economic opportunities for diverse groups, including women, youth, ethnic communities, and persons with disabilities. This position provides technical and operational support for coordinating activities with technical teams, implementing partners, and territorial actors, ensuring adherence to timelines, methodologies, and institutional guidelines. The Project Officer will also ensure the application of institutional guidelines related to human rights, gender equality, participation, non-discrimination, and sustainability in all program activities.
Responsibilities
The Project Officer will contribute to the implementation and monitoring of economic strengthening projects, applying established methodologies and technical guidelines with a gender focus. This includes providing technical and operational support for planning, executing, and closing activities, ensuring goals and timelines are met. The role involves participating in field missions for implementation, monitoring, and closing activities in the territory, adhering to UN guidelines, and offering technical support to beneficiary communities and territorial actors. The officer will also support operational management by monitoring activities using defined tools and indicators, contributing to the operational plan. Responsibilities include drafting technical reports and documentation, and preparing terms of reference for procurement. Additionally, the role supports capacity-building activities for beneficiaries, promotes gender and inclusion approaches, and assists in analyzing and documenting program information to identify areas for improvement. Coordination with local actors and participation in technical meetings are also key functions.
Work Experience
Required: Relevant experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating economic development strategies, policies, plans, programs, or projects. Experience in social dialogue, consensus-building, and direct community work with a gender and diversity focus. Experience in developing training strategies for community economic and financial strengthening. Desirable: Experience in management, inter-institutional articulation, and coordination with national, regional, and local entities. Experience in report writing, project monitoring, accountability, and using Office tools.
