Job Purpose
The Senior Project Manager will lead and oversee all facets of a World Bank-funded energy infrastructure project in Papua New Guinea. This involves managing the procurement of transformers, assessing existing substations, and preparing tender documents for rehabilitation. The role demands strategic planning, effective stakeholder engagement with PNG Power Ltd and the World Bank, and ensuring project delivery within scope, budget, and timeline, while upholding UNOPS performance standards and maximizing benefits for stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include developing and implementing project plans, managing infrastructure design and reviews, and embedding sustainability dimensions. The role involves overseeing the production of outputs, ensuring quality, managing supplier relations, and controlling project variances. It requires identifying and mitigating project risks, ensuring compliance with UNOPS policies and local regulations, and maintaining project documentation. The Senior Project Manager will also monitor project progress, prepare regular reports, and manage stakeholder engagement strategies, fostering strong relationships with the World Bank and PNG Power Ltd. Additionally, responsibilities encompass quality assurance of project deliverables, knowledge management through sharing lessons learned, and effective personnel management, including team leadership, motivation, and performance management.
Work Experience
Required experience includes project management, with a focus on energy infrastructure, and managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders. Demonstrated experience in leading multidisciplinary teams is essential. Experience working in multicultural environments, with international organizations, or on World Bank-funded projects, particularly in developing countries within the Asia-Pacific region, is desirable.
