Job Purpose
The Civil Engineer is crucial for the successful execution of infrastructure projects, ensuring they meet defined parameters for time, cost, quality, scope, risk, and benefit. This role involves close collaboration with the Project Manager and project teams to conduct project assessments, prepare essential documentation like Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and bid documents, and provide on-site supervision. The engineer conducts technical evaluations to guarantee adherence to design standards, quality assurance protocols, and occupational health, safety, and environmental management requirements. By offering technical expertise and promoting best practices in construction management, the Civil Engineer upholds high standards of consistency and quality, directly contributing to the achievement of organizational performance goals and overall project success.
Responsibilities
The Civil Engineer's responsibilities encompass project planning and implementation, including preparing implementation plans, BoQs, cost estimates, and schedules, and providing technical input for feasibility studies and design development. They will assist in preparing tender documents and bid evaluations, ensuring project execution aligns with technical specifications and organizational standards. In construction and quality assurance, the role involves supervising daily activities for timely and cost-effective delivery, verifying material quantities, monitoring site activities, and ensuring Health, Safety, Social, and Environmental (HSSE) compliance. The engineer will oversee contractor performance, manage quality control, and resolve technical issues. Monitoring, reporting, and compliance involve tracking progress against KPIs, preparing reports, ensuring adherence to organizational systems, and identifying/mitigating risks. Stakeholder coordination includes collaborating with project managers and procurement teams, representing UNOPS in field activities, and engaging with local authorities and beneficiaries. Knowledge building involves supporting training sessions and participating in knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Work Experience
Required experience includes civil engineering, structural works, construction technology, and construction supervision. Experience working in multicultural environments or UN system organizations in a developing country is desirable, as is experience in development or humanitarian contexts.
