WASH Engineer
Organizational Context
UNOPS Myanmar, a leading office in Asia, manages significant development programs and serves as the Principal Recipient for the Global Fund. The 3PI Team focuses on building essential infrastructure, including WASH facilities, in remote areas, supporting sustainable solutions and addressing gender and protection issues. The team also responds to emergencies and aids in post-disaster reconstruction.
Job Purpose
The WASH Engineer provides technical expertise to support the design, implementation, supervision, and documentation of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) projects under the Senior Programme Manager. This role ensures high-quality design documentation, transparency, integrity, and compliance with technical requirements, specifications, timelines, and budget constraints. The engineer will utilize specialized software for WASH systems, contributing to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure and interventions across Myanmar, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
Responsibilities
The WASH Engineer is responsible for supporting needs assessments and preparing detailed reports for WASH infrastructure. This includes participating in the preparation and review of designs for water supply, wastewater management, drainage, and sanitation facilities. The role involves developing/reviewing Terms of Reference, drawings, technical specifications, scopes of work, bills of quantities, and cost estimations. Additionally, the engineer will assist in preparing tender documents and evaluating proposals. Coordination of works execution includes supporting project planning, scheduling, and integrated design development. Site inspections, progress reporting, and ensuring contractor compliance with quality and HSSE plans are key duties. The role also involves coordinating system testing, commissioning, training, and handover, as well as technical review and quality assurance of design documentation and site records.
Work Experience
Required experience includes design or works execution supervision of WASH-related projects and experience with wastewater and drainage systems. Experience working in multicultural environments or with UN system organizations in Myanmar is highly desirable.
