Job Purpose
The Senior Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and timely transportation of UNOPS personnel, consultants, and experts during their missions. This role extends beyond driving to include essential support functions such as performing clerical tasks and acting as a messenger. The incumbent will facilitate airport transfers, manage the delivery and collection of important documents and mail, and maintain effective communication. By ensuring the efficient and safe operation of vehicles and assisting with various administrative and logistical duties, the Senior Driver directly contributes to the smooth execution of UNOPS operations and project activities in Mozambique.
Responsibilities
Provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation for authorized personnel, cargo, and hazardous goods, including airport transfers and customs/immigration assistance. Conduct routine vehicle checks, perform minor repairs, and arrange for major servicing to maintain vehicles in a clean, roadworthy, and fully equipped state. Maintain accurate daily logs for proper and cost-effective vehicle use and contribute to maintenance planning. Ensure the safekeeping of all necessary vehicle documents and supplies. Deliver and collect mail, documents, and packages promptly to various UN agencies, government offices, and other institutions. Manage documents requiring protocol clearance and support office administration with tasks like binding and maintaining registers. Assist with logistical arrangements for meetings, workshops, and field missions. Support procurement processes by collecting quotations, making payments, and collecting supplies. Facilitate the delivery of procured items, conduct pre-delivery inspections, and manage shipment processes including customs clearance.
Work Experience
Required experience includes safe driving, defensive driving techniques, and performing minor vehicle repairs. A strong understanding of driving rules and regulations is essential. Experience working in multicultural environments or within UN system organizations in a developing country is desirable, as is experience in development or humanitarian contexts.
