Job Purpose
The Structural Engineer provides technical expertise and supervision for the planning, implementation, and oversight of infrastructure construction projects. This role ensures all construction activities adhere to required quality standards, stay within budget, and meet established timelines. Key responsibilities include construction supervision, quality management, contract administration, and health and safety compliance. The position contributes to the delivery of resilient, safe, and sustainable infrastructure, aligning with UNOPS standards and donor/partner requirements, and supports capacity building within project teams.
Responsibilities
Oversee and manage daily construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, approved plans, and contractual obligations. Monitor construction progress and contractor performance for timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery. Identify and report potential delays, risks, and cost overruns, recommending and implementing corrective actions. Review contractor payment claims, variation orders, and extension requests for accuracy and compliance. Maintain adequate project documentation, including progress reports, site records, and meeting minutes. Ensure effective communication and coordination with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to address technical and operational issues promptly. Uphold UNOPS quality standards and project-specific quality assurance plans through regular inspections and material testing. Support the implementation of Health, Safety, Social, and Environmental (HSSE) management systems, promoting a culture of responsibility and prevention.
Work Experience
Required: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in building construction, site supervision, or infrastructure project management. Experience in quality control, monitoring, and reporting within construction projects is essential. Demonstrated proficiency in using collaboration and productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite, Autocad, Revit, BIM) and web-based management systems. Desirable: Experience in seismic-resistant structures, working in multicultural environments or UN system organizations, and in development or humanitarian contexts.
