Engineer Intern (Urban Planner and Designer - International Intern)
Organizational Context
UNOPS Nepal, as part of the South Asia Multi-Country Office (SAMCO), supports the Government of Nepal in various sectors including urban development and climate resilience. The "Cities 4 Women" project, a collaboration with Cities Alliance and UN-Habitat, aims to enhance participatory urban planning processes, focusing on inclusivity and climate adaptation in municipalities.
Job Purpose
The Engineer Intern will support the "Cities 4 Women" project by contributing to research, data analysis, documentation, and stakeholder engagement. This role involves assisting in the preparation of urban profiles, maps, and reports, as well as supporting the organization of consultations and workshops. The intern will gain practical experience in evidence-based urban planning, gender equality, and climate resilience within an international development framework, contributing to the project's goal of improving urban living conditions and opportunities for all residents.
Responsibilities
Conduct desk research on urban planning, gender equality, and climate resilience in Nepal. Perform field surveys to gather data on urban spaces and user experiences, particularly for women and girls. Analyze collected data and prepare visualizations such as maps and charts. Document best practices and project benchmarks. Report on project-related meetings and events. Assist in preparing project documents and publications on participatory planning and public space design. Support the organization and facilitation of stakeholder consultations and urban design workshops, ensuring inclusive participation. Undertake other project support activities, including communications and knowledge management, and contribute to the development of project knowledge products.
Work Experience
Required: Strong computer literacy in Google Suite or MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Desirable: Experience with GIS software (ESRI or similar), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). Priority given to students with experience in organizing/participating in design competitions or published works on urban topics.
