Job Purpose
The Health, Safety, Social and Environmental Senior Associate - Environmental Management will provide technical support and monitoring for environmental and social management plans (ESMPs) within project activities. This includes planning public consultations, contributing to ESMP development and implementation, conducting field visits to assess environmental impacts, and supervising environmental and social aspects of construction work. The role ensures project compliance with UNOPS environmental policies and national regulations, supports environmental indicator monitoring, and assists in preparing environmental reports. Additionally, the associate will contribute to capacity building through training and awareness-raising on environmental best practices and participate in coordination meetings with stakeholders.
Responsibilities
The Senior Associate is responsible for ensuring compliance with donor standards and Haitian environmental laws, preparing regular environmental reports, and reviewing or participating in the development of Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs). This includes identifying potential environmental risks associated with project activities and proposing corrective actions. The role involves providing technical assistance to ensure project conformity with UNOPS environmental policies and national regulations. Furthermore, the associate will support environmental indicator monitoring within intervention zones and contribute to documenting best practices in environmental management, participating in technical meetings with partners and stakeholders.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of relevant experience in environmental management, preferably within development projects, is required. Prior experience with projects funded by international donors is considered an asset.
