Organizational Context
The UNOPS Global Portfolios Office (GPO) supports partners in delivering impact worldwide, focusing on sustainable development, climate action, and peacebuilding. The Development and Special Initiatives team specifically supports UN partners and Member States in achieving the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. This role is within the Forest & Climate Leaders' Partnership (FCLP), a hosted entity.
Job Purpose
The In-Country Coordinator is responsible for providing strategic, technical, and coordination support to facilitate effective national engagement within the Forest & Climate Leaders' Partnership (FCLP). This role aims to advance country-level priorities related to forests, climate, and biodiversity by strengthening coordination among national stakeholders, supporting the implementation of country-specific initiatives, and ensuring alignment between national strategies and FCLP objectives. Additionally, the coordinator will facilitate access to finance and foster partnerships to achieve these goals, contributing to global efforts in forest conservation and climate action.
Responsibilities
The In-Country Coordinator will provide technical, coordination, and facilitation support to enhance national participation in the FCLP. Key duties include leading the development and monitoring of annual workplans, coordinating between national and international actors, and preparing regular reports and briefing materials. The role involves supporting government participation in FCLP governance and thematic priorities, identifying partnership opportunities, and facilitating coordination among national institutions, the private sector, and FCLP partners. Responsibilities also extend to supporting the development and implementation of Country Packages and national action strategies, aligning them with national strategies like NDCs and NBSAPs. Furthermore, the coordinator will facilitate engagement with Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, support implementation of land tenure commitments, and assist in national engagement with carbon markets and climate finance initiatives.
Work Experience
Required experience includes working with government institutions and multi-stakeholder processes, project coordination in climate, forests, or sustainable development, and engaging diverse stakeholders. Strong facilitation skills for dialogue and knowledge exchange are essential. Desired experience includes policy/investment proposal development, familiarity with REDD+ or carbon markets, and experience with international initiatives in forests or climate.
