Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) works globally to prevent drugs and crime from threatening security and development. This role supports UNODC's mandate to combat environmental crime, including deforestation and illegal resource exploitation, by strengthening national capacities and fostering international cooperation. The position is within the Environmental Prevention and Justice Component.
Job Purpose
The Associate Forest Engineering professional will provide technical expertise and documentation support to ensure the Online Forest Planning module (PFL) aligns with current regulations, meets the information needs of the forestry sector, and fulfills institutional requirements. This role is crucial for the National Forest Traceability System (SNTF) and contributes to combating deforestation and environmental crimes in prioritized territories, working in close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.
Responsibilities
The Associate Forest Engineer will support the technical conceptualization of the Online Forest Planning module (PFL) based on legal frameworks. They will provide technical assistance to the multidisciplinary team in building the PFL's enterprise architecture, focusing on planning and design. Responsibilities include validating internal/external integrations, preparing technical reports for information analysis and statistics generation for the SNTF, and supporting technical guidance to environmental authorities for SNTF implementation. The role also involves consolidating information for action plans and other reports, participating in module testing, responding to assigned queries related to the contract's objective, and contributing technically to normative initiatives for the SNTF.
Work Experience
Required: Work experience providing technical forest information and support for Online Forest Planning (PFL) in line with current environmental sector regulations. Desirable: Specific experience in formulating and implementing Forest Management Plans (POF), Watershed Management Plans (POMCA), Forest Management Plans for Protected Areas, and GIS analysis of land cover.
