Job Purpose
The Senior Security Assistant provides essential administrative and specialized support to ensure the effective management of safety and security operations within UNOPS. This role promotes a client-oriented approach aligned with UNOPS policies and the UN Security Management System. By facilitating timely information exchange and assisting in resolving security issues, the incumbent contributes to maintaining a safe and secure operating environment for all personnel and assets. The position plays a key role in supporting the overall mission of UNMAS Syria in its coordination and advisory functions.
Responsibilities
The Senior Security Assistant is responsible for supporting security operations by gathering and verifying security information, maintaining accurate personnel and site lists, and disseminating security updates. This includes compiling data for compliance monitoring, documenting and reporting security incidents, and representing UNOPS at Security Cell meetings. The role involves providing administrative and logistical support for security awareness training, conducting basic security briefings for new personnel, and managing security clearance processes. Additionally, the assistant will coordinate with UNDSS when necessary, handle general administrative tasks, organize meetings, prepare documents, operate emergency communication equipment, and maintain secure records. Knowledge building and sharing on security topics are also key functions.
Work Experience
Required experience includes work in security operations, incident reporting, security administration, communications, and warden systems. Proficiency with collaboration tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite) and web-based management systems is also necessary. Experience in multicultural or developing country environments, particularly within the UN system, humanitarian, or development contexts, is desirable.
