Organizational Context
The UNOPS Global Portfolios Office (GPO) supports partners in delivering impact worldwide, focusing on sustainable development, climate action, and peacebuilding. Based in Geneva, it hosts secretariats for global partnerships and provides fund management and operational support. The Water, Environment, and Climate (WEC) portfolio within GPO implements initiatives focused on climate action and environmental protection, managing a significant portfolio and supporting key multilateral agreements.
Job Purpose
The Partnership and Network Adviser will identify and manage strategic partnerships to build a global expertise pool in urban development, technical support, and climate finance. This role is crucial for aligning with city priorities on climate and energy, designing and implementing knowledge management strategies, and fostering end-to-end climate implementation coalition building. The adviser will work closely with the team and stakeholders to drive these initiatives, ensuring effective collaboration and resource mobilization for climate action at the city level.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a partnership strategy aligned with GCoM objectives, analyzing the development landscape and identifying strategic partners, including international financial institutions, donors, foundations, NGOs, academia, and private sector actors. Advise senior management on partnership priorities and research funding opportunities. Engage in partnership meetings and negotiations, facilitating high-level engagement and showcasing GCoM's capabilities through communication materials. Establish and maintain a global pool of technical expertise, facilitating knowledge exchange and promoting best practices for climate action plans. Support the development of climate implementation coalitions, identifying barriers and facilitating solutions. Represent the initiative in relevant forums, support project development, and undertake tasks as directed to respond to emerging needs.
Work Experience
Required experience includes partnership development, knowledge management, and climate action. Proven ability to build and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders, including private sector entities and international financial institutions, is essential. Experience in driving successful coalition building and fostering collaboration is also required. Desired experience includes working with cities on climate initiatives and implementing knowledge management strategies.
