The UNOPS Africa Regional Office oversees over 250 projects in 40 countries, focusing on fragile settings. The West Africa Multi-Country Office (WAMCO), based in Dakar, delivers project management, infrastructure, and procurement services across 16 countries in West Africa and the Sahel, supporting peacebuilding and sustainable development.
Job Purpose
The Engineer Intern will support the LAFIA IYALI Health Sector Support Project in Niger, funded by the World Bank. The intern will assist project teams in technical supervision, quality control, and coordination of construction and rehabilitation of health facilities. This role involves frequent site visits and contributes to ensuring compliance with technical, environmental, social, and HSSE requirements, supporting the project's overall objectives in improving health infrastructure.
Responsibilities
The Engineer Intern will be responsible for the technical supervision of construction and rehabilitation works, verifying conformity with plans and specifications, and participating in quality control of materials and executed works. This includes supporting the monitoring of company schedules, participating in site visits and technical inspections, and assisting in tracking executed quantities and technical tests. The intern will also contribute to HSSE compliance, identifying technical and safety non-conformities, and ensuring adherence to environmental and social management plans. Additionally, the role involves participating in site meetings, contributing to progress reports, updating project tracking tools, and assisting in the archiving of technical documents. Support will also be provided for work reception operations and coordination with contractors and stakeholders.
Work Experience
No prior professional experience is required. However, academic or internship experience in infrastructure, site supervision, or public works is an asset. Proficiency in standard IT tools (Word, Excel, AutoCAD, MS Project) and good knowledge of construction techniques are also beneficial.
