Organizational Context
UN-Habitat's Syria Country Programme focuses on urban resilience and recovery, supporting local authorities and communities in data collection, needs assessment, and project implementation for housing, infrastructure, and cultural heritage. The Aleppo hub specifically oversees coordination, partnerships, and project execution in northern Syria, aiming to create an enabling environment for displaced populations' return.
Job Purpose
This role aims to enhance UN-Habitat's operational and analytical capacity in Aleppo by supporting urban data collection, organization, and analysis. The Project Senior Associate will facilitate coordination with partners and authorities, contribute to monitoring and documenting recovery interventions, and ensure effective planning and timely implementation of project activities. The position is crucial for advancing urban resilience and sustainable recovery efforts within the governorate, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with broader organizational goals.
Responsibilities
The Project Senior Associate provides technical, analytical, coordination, and logistical support for UN-Habitat interventions in Aleppo and Idleb. Key functions include supporting Housing, Land and Property (HLP) components, reviewing technical documentation, and preparing progress reports. The role involves managing and updating a spatial database, supporting damage assessments and urban profiling with field data collection and analysis, and providing GIS and mapping support for various projects. Additionally, the associate assists in planning and implementing workshops, coordinating with local authorities, conducting field visits for monitoring, and supporting information management systems for data consistency and accuracy.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of progressive experience in Housing, Land and Property (HLP) and Geographic Information System (GIS) is required. Proficiency in Word, Excel, and GIS software (ArcGIS or QGIS) is essential. Experience in field monitoring and implementation is necessary. Desired experience includes working with international organizations on project management, coordination, data management, analysis, visualization, and building/infrastructure damage assessments.
