Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) supports the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in implementing its mandate. UNAOC, an initiative of the UN Secretary-General, aims to foster global understanding and cooperation across cultures and religions to prevent conflict and extremism. This role is within UNOPS, supporting UNAOC's educational programming for young civil society leaders.
Job Purpose
The Capacity Building Specialist [Lead Trainer] is responsible for the effective implementation, coordination, and monitoring of project activities for the UNAOC Young Peacebuilder programme. This role ensures the successful delivery of results within defined scope, time, cost, and quality parameters. The specialist provides analytical and operational support for project planning, execution, and reporting, actively contributing to risk and performance management. A key aspect of the role is ensuring timely and accurate communication with the programme lead, facilitating the achievement of the programme's objectives in empowering young leaders with peacebuilding skills and fostering intercultural dialogue.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities include designing and developing comprehensive curriculum and educational materials for online modules, a face-to-face workshop, and implementation support, tailored to the programme's objectives and participant needs. The specialist will facilitate online modules, ensuring participant engagement through assignments, discussions, and Q&A. They will also lead the face-to-face workshop, mentor participants in implementing their action plans, and potentially attend a final symposium. Reporting duties involve submitting mid-review and post-training reports detailing workshops, lessons learned, and recommendations. The role requires building and maintaining regular communication with programme participants and the programme lead, keeping them informed of progress and results. Additionally, the specialist will support the organization and delivery of training sessions on peacebuilding and project management, and contribute to drafting reports and briefing notes.
Work Experience
Required experience includes work in peace education and/or designing and facilitating learning trajectories for multicultural youth. Desirable experience encompasses online training, intercultural/interfaith dialogue, media for positive narratives, and other peacebuilding themes. Familiarity with the South Caucasus and Central Asia region is an asset. Ability to work with a gender and intercultural approach and in multicultural teams is also beneficial.
