Job Purpose
This role aims to enhance UN-Habitat's evidence-based support for urban recovery and development in northern Syria. The Urban Planning Associate will provide crucial technical assistance, focusing on integrating gender, cultural heritage, and multi-sectoral data analysis into project development and delivery. Key contributions include supporting practical implementation aspects such as organizing workshops, contributing to technical designs, and facilitating overall project coordination to ensure a balanced and sustainable recovery of urban areas.
Responsibilities
The Urban Planning Associate will provide technical and logistical support for various projects under the supervision of the Area Urban Planning Expert. Key duties include assisting in data collection, analysis, verification, and organization for city and neighborhood profiles. The role involves supporting the organization of technical meetings and workshops, including agenda preparation, logistics, moderation, and outcome documentation. Additionally, the Associate will contribute to the development of urban profiles and recovery plans by preparing written inputs based on data and stakeholder engagement. Project coordination support, including budgeting, cost control, financial oversight, reporting, and minute recording, is also a core responsibility, alongside any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
A minimum of six years of progressive experience in project management support, urban planning, or coordination is required, with a reduction possible for higher education. Experience in organizing community workshops and proficiency in Word and Excel are necessary. Desired experience includes working with international organizations, supporting cultural heritage preservation, and using Photoshop and Illustrator.
