The Technical Services Unit (TSU) is a global multidisciplinary unit within this office, providing design, assessment, and advisory services for projects worldwide, with retainer personnel working remotely.
Job Purpose
The Biomedical Engineer provides essential technical expertise to support UNOPS healthcare projects. This role is crucial for ensuring the high-quality research, procurement, commissioning, and installation of medical equipment. By offering specialized engineering support, the position directly contributes to the successful implementation of health initiatives, enhancing the capacity of healthcare systems in the regions UNOPS serves. The role ensures that medical equipment meets stringent technical specifications and operational requirements, aligning with UNOPS' commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure and improving quality of life.
Responsibilities
The Biomedical Engineer provides technical support for biomedical procurement, including reviewing and preparing accurate technical specifications, assessing bid compliance, and preparing equipment estimates. They also support assessments by reviewing existing health equipment and installations, analyzing documentation for accuracy and suitability. In design support, the role involves collaborating with design teams and medical experts to optimize equipment placement for patient flow, preparing installation drawings, and assisting with bills of quantity. Additionally, the engineer participates in site visits, witnesses testing and commissioning, reviews shop drawings, and develops maintenance plans. Administrative duties include maintaining project files and participating in knowledge-sharing activities.
Work Experience
A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in medical equipment specification, procurement, and maintenance is required for candidates with a Bachelor's degree. Candidates with a Master's degree require a minimum of 2 years of experience. Previous experience in developing countries and knowledge of the East African context are desirable.
