Communications Specialist Contractor
Organizational Context
UNOPS, the UN's operational arm, supports peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development projects globally. The Geneva office facilitates the 2030 Agenda, offering management solutions for health, nutrition, and environmental initiatives. This role is a Partner Personnel position, supporting UNICEF's Digital Inclusion team under UNICEF's supervision, with UNOPS providing recruitment and administrative support.
Job Purpose
The Communications Specialist Contractor will develop and refine content and audience strategies, focusing on editorial components to support strategic positioning and audience engagement. The role is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of communication products, particularly editorial content, leveraging AI for enhanced efficiency and quality. This includes managing the full production lifecycle, from scoping to final delivery, and optimizing workflows. The specialist will also manage multiple communication workstreams, distribute content across various channels, and monitor performance metrics to inform continuous improvement and strategic adjustments.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute editorial calendars, producing and editing high-quality content across diverse formats such as presentation decks, donor materials, policy documents, web content, talking points, and social media outputs. Translate complex technical information on connectivity systems, infrastructure, and procurement into clear, audience-appropriate language. Support the development and implementation of audience strategies and product messaging, utilizing CRM tools for segmented content delivery. Source, onboard, and manage external vendors and consultants for communication delivery, overseeing end-to-end production and providing feedback. Contribute to and maintain brand identity and systems across Digital Inclusion outputs, ensuring consistency and coherence with global positioning. Monitor progress, ensuring timely delivery of outputs, tracking performance metrics, and continuously optimizing content and workflows, including AI integration.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in media, journalism, communications, or public relations within a global or international context. Proven ability to independently execute end-to-end communication products, practical experience with AI tools in communication workflows, and strong project management skills are essential. Experience managing external vendors and translating complex technical topics into accessible content is also required.
