Organizational Context
The UNOPS Development and Special Initiatives team supports UN partners and Member States in achieving the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. The New York Portfolios Office (NYPO) specifically assists the UN Secretariat and other New York-based UN organizations with project, infrastructure, and procurement management. The Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) operates globally, supporting peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development operations.
Job Purpose
The Administration Associate plays a crucial role in the effective development and performance of the Climate Action Team (CAT). By ensuring the project aligns with overall UN agenda priorities, the incumbent's contributions directly impact CAT's visibility and operational success. This role is integral to supporting the UN Secretary-General's climate action strategy, which aims to accelerate the transition to a resilient, net-zero world and keep the 1.5°C goal alive through coordinated global efforts and finance alignment.
Responsibilities
The Administration Associate serves as the primary administrative liaison and correspondence focal point for the Climate Action Team, managing communications with senior UN officials and external partners. Responsibilities include preparing official documentation, managing workflow and priorities for the ASG, and coordinating diverse activities to ensure timely delivery of products. The role involves compiling and analyzing data, researching background materials for reports and speeches, and handling complex information requests. Additionally, the associate supports presentations to intergovernmental bodies by preparing briefing materials and gathering documentation, while also monitoring and following up on action items to ensure efficient project administration.
Work Experience
Relevant experience includes programme or project administration, technical cooperation, or related fields. Experience in preparing and issuing official correspondence to member states, adhering to UN Editorial Standards, is desired.
