Organizational Context
The UNOPS Africa Regional Office manages over 250 projects across 40 countries, focusing on fragile and conflict-affected settings. It supports national priorities through initiatives in Climate Action, Health, Infrastructure, Peace and Security, and more. The Central Africa Multi-Country Office (CAMCO) partners with governments and organizations across 15 nations, providing fund management and capacity-building in critical sectors like infrastructure, health, and governance.
Job Purpose
The Communications Officer is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication plans to support project and programme objectives within UNOPS. This involves analyzing communication landscapes, managing content calendars, and creating diverse, high-quality materials such as press releases, social media updates, and reports. A key aspect of the role is serving as a primary liaison for external partners and donors, ensuring effective engagement and accurate representation of UNOPS's work and impact across the region.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute communication strategies aligned with project goals, analyzing local contexts and target audiences to optimize outreach. Create a wide range of editorial content, including press releases, social media posts, videos, and fact sheets, ensuring timely and high-quality production. Manage editorial calendars and coordinate content across various channels, collaborating with technical experts for comprehensive reporting. Maintain effective communication with donors, clients, and partners, and support the organization of external events. Contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives and conduct research on communication topics to inform reports and briefing notes.
Work Experience
Requires relevant experience in communications, public relations, media, or journalism. Proficiency in collaboration tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite) and web-based management systems is necessary. Experience in multicultural or UN environments, development/humanitarian contexts, and content creation tools is desirable.
