Senior Associate Biomedical Engineer

Job Purpose
The Senior Associate Biomedical Engineer provides essential para-professional leadership and technical support for the implementation of healthcare and laboratory equipment strengthening initiatives in Uzbekistan. This role ensures effective coordination between national authorities, health partners, and UNOPS, maintaining technical accuracy and strategic alignment with project goals and national health strategies. The position contributes to managing integrated processes, facilitating technical support, and enhancing knowledge management to bolster Uzbekistan's health system resilience and capacity, particularly in areas like biosafety and pandemic preparedness, aligning with SDG3 objectives.
Responsibilities
The role involves extensive liaison and coordination with national authorities and health partners to implement healthcare and laboratory equipment strengthening activities, including documenting networks and assisting with health technology assessments. Responsibilities include facilitating work planning and coordination meetings, supporting capacity building training, and ensuring equipment recommendations align with international standards and local regulations, particularly for Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratories. The position also requires preparing technical specifications for medical equipment procurement, performing technical evaluations of proposals, coordinating with suppliers for delivery and installation, and conducting quality assurance checks. Furthermore, the role involves following up on on-site training, supporting work plan development, reviewing reports, participating in field visits, and contributing to data collection, management, reporting, and knowledge management activities.
Work Experience
Required experience includes work in biomedical engineering, medical equipment procurement, installation, and maintenance, as well as preparing technical specifications and evaluating proposals. Experience in coordinating with suppliers and performing quality assurance is also necessary. Desirable experience includes working in multicultural environments, UN system organizations, developing countries, or in development/humanitarian contexts, particularly with biosafety level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory requirements.
