Job Purpose
The EU Integration Linguistic Specialist, under the Project Manager's supervision, is crucial for ensuring the legal accuracy and linguistic consistency of translated EU legislation for North Macedonia's accession process. The role focuses on developing and maintaining a high-quality manual for legal-linguistic conformity, providing expert technical advice to national institutions on preparing the national version of the EU acquis, and guiding the legal and expert review of translated texts and terminology management. This ensures institutional capacity is strengthened for effective EU integration.
Responsibilities
The Specialist is responsible for the technical maintenance and alignment of the EU Acquis Translation Manual, ensuring it adheres to EU legal drafting principles and best practices for legal-linguistic harmonization. This includes validating technical approaches and ensuring translated laws retain their original legal meaning and effect. The role also involves expert legal-linguistic review and quality control of translated legislation, identifying and correcting errors, and verifying consistency with source texts. Furthermore, the Specialist provides technical support for coordination models in translation and terminology management, contributes to consistent application of standards across institutions, and offers expert input for complex legal interpretation issues. Finally, the Specialist is tasked with capacity building through training sessions, workshops, and creating user-friendly guides for translators and legal professionals.
Work Experience
Required relevant experience includes work in legal and linguistic review, translation, or related fields. Experience with EU acquis translation, legal-linguistic revision, or preparation of multilingual legislative texts is considered an asset.
