Job Purpose
The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Advisor provides strategic and technical support to integrate GESI principles across the Sanitation and Hygiene Fund (SHF) portfolio. This role is crucial for ensuring SHF's programs, partnerships, and approaches are informed by inclusive, evidence-based practices. The advisor will contribute to coordination, analysis, advocacy, and thought leadership on GESI, specifically focusing on improving access and affordability for women, men, boys, and girls within sanitation economies and menstrual health markets. The position aims to strengthen the enabling environment and expand enterprise capacity for sustainable sanitation and hygiene solutions.
Responsibilities
The GESI Advisor will provide strategic planning and analysis by contributing GESI perspectives to SHF's annual planning, quarterly reviews, and reporting. This includes analyzing global gender challenges impacting operations and program delivery. In monitoring and evaluation, the advisor will refine GESI indicators, lead data collection and analysis, and draft relevant sections for reports and publications, sharing success stories and best practices. For facilitation, coordination, and convening, the role supports developing GESI priorities in country plans, convening stakeholders, and reviewing funding and grant proposals from a GESI perspective. The advisor will also develop advocacy strategies and key messages for GESI mainstreaming in sanitation and menstrual health, identifying strategic opportunities for joint advocacy with partners.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of experience is required in gender equality and gender-sensitive programming within the context of sanitation and/or menstrual health, including policy development. Experience with global gender frameworks, the UN system, market development in sanitation/menstrual health, and working in Africa or Asia Pacific is desirable.
